3:10 to Yuma

(2007, James Mangold)

Tolerable modern Western featuring good performances by Christian Bale and Russell Crowe. The story though seems awfully thin and centered around fight scenes and chase sequences. I believe in better hands, this has the makings of a classic movie (hey, wait, this IS a remake), but it’s all too unbelievable, and bordering on hokey, for this to get any more than a moderate approval.

And I still am ashamed of how much Mangold I’ve ingested.

  1. I have been curious about this one. I love the original, with Van Heflin and Glenn Ford — right up until the ending, anyway.
