Years ago my mother used to say to me, she’d say, “In this world, Elwood, you must be”….she always called me Elwood….”in this world, Elwood, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant.” Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. You may quote me.

Jimmy Stewart is all charm in this stage adaptation which proves once again that mental illness is a topic ripe for comedy. With support from a fantastic Josephine Hull, the story remains a sentimental and sweet fairytale of a loony uncle and his imaginary friend, while occasionally poking fun at the treatment of mental health patients.
