Gun Crazy

(1950, Joseph H. Lewis)

The last DVD for me to see from the Film Noir collection I own. Visually stunning, thanks to director Lewis and cinematographer Russell Harlan. The acting is a bit hammy, and brings down the ever-tightening plot, which features a fantastic finish. Listed on IMDB as Deadly Is the Female, even though all the packaging lists it under Gun Crazy.

  1. How’d you like that one shot of the bank robbery, all in one take? I love it when budget constraints result in magic like that.

  2. With the getaway, et al? Amazing stuff. Of course, there are some amazingly stylish camera moves throughout this film.

Haven’t watched any of the commentaries on this collection, but I’m dying to.

  3. I think I have the same collection. The commentary on Asphalt Jungle stinks, I warn you. Although they have some snippets of interview with James Whitmore, those parts are good.
