TAR 12 – Episode 7 – The Road to Hell
An absolutely grueling leg for all remaining teams. Endless driving, tears, teeth-gnashing, killer fatigue, rituals involving flag tossing and obvious Blackberry product placements all reared their ugly heads.
Details on the episode (SPOILERS!) follow the jump.
Order of finish:
Nicolas & Donald – Worst to first! They couldn’t have stumbled upon the sole Fast Forward at a better time. I’m glad they won this leg for two reasons. One: Yay! They won a leg! Two: I’m hoping that this might springboard them into winning, or at least getting used to the idea. They’ve been skating along the bottom for so long that I’m sure it feels good to be on top for a change. At the very least, they get to spend spa time together in Cancun, admiring their twin tattoos!
Jennifer & Nathan – Other than whining about skipping the FF, they were actually tolerable this week. Maybe because nearly every other team was melting down around them, they seemed relatively calm in comparison. They even worked through the silly flag throwing thing that seemed to be their only stumbling block. Is this just CBS softening their image so that I don’t utterly hate them when they walk away with $1M? Damn you, Bruckheimer. Stop messing with my head!
Ronald & Christina – He’s clueless. And she’s getting sick of his abuse. At least it’s a realistic family relationship, but I don’t have to watch it on television. R & C are the reason why I’d never go on TAR with a family member. Who wants to air all that dirty laundry?
Rachel & TK – This team in particular experienced elation and crushing defeat about 10 times a piece on this leg. They lost the clue (OH NO!). They found the clue and found a faster route (WOO-HOO!). TK took forever to find a clue and let three teams pass him (OH NO!). They somehow caught up to Kent & Vixen (WOO-HOO!) only to get a flat tire (OH NO!). I can’t decide if they’re dim or just painfully unlucky. Either way, it’s riveting to watch. Definitely a Top 3 team if they don’t drive themselves off a cliff first.
Kynt & Vyxsin – I was prepared to be really saddened by their departure, when their Philimination was declined. I’m really happy that they’re still around, which surprises me every single time I mention it, considering how dead they were to me at the beginning. They finally broke down and had their first onscreen fight, but I think they’ll bounce back if they just stay positive and work through the challenges as they’ve done to this point.
Predicted order of Philimination:
1. Nicolas & Donald
2. Kynt & Vyxsin
3. Ronald & Christina
Shana & Jennifer
Kate & Pat
Azaria & Hendekea
Ari & Staella
Marianna & Julia
9. Rachel & TK
Lorena & Jason
11. Jennifer & Nathan
Actual order of Philimination:
1. Ari & Staella
2. Kate & Pat
3. Marianna & Julia
4. Lorena & Jason
5. Shana & Jennifer
6. Azaria & Hendekea
Since no one was eliminated in this leg, I’ll stay with my prediction that Ron & Christina will be sent packing in the next one. Killer fatigue seems to be affecting each of these teams, and they are going to have to, in Emeril terms, kick it up a notch. Kent and Vixen will be hampered in the next leg by some new Speedbump thingee, where they’ll have to commit a task that no other team will have to endure. Sounds like a good idea, much better than the old method of taking away their money and clothes. The former method used to turn racers into beggars, which was unseemly, especially in impoverished areas of the world. Also, it’s in the spirit of racing: the faster they can accomplish the task, the less time they’ll lose in keeping up with the other teams. Sounds good to me. All other TV now sucks because of the writers’ strike, but at least TAR continues to deliver.
Next week – Kent & Vixen drink former contestants Rob & Amber’s blood! And Nick and Don develop Hepatitis-B! Tune in!
