I have a feeling my movie watching will be supplanted by my viewing of the World Cup.
I’ve always loved this event, because it’s the culmination of the planet in sport, even moreso than the Olympics. Every four years, politics, economics and history form the backdrop for 32 teams of men on the green pitch. And this event, like so many others, is really all about the fans – see this Flickr thread for the proof.
It’s a shame there’s never been a truly good soccer movie. Maybe Once in a Lifetime: The Extraordinary Story of the New York Cosmos will buck the trend.
