Hell Is for Heroes

Hell Is for Heroes

(1962, Dir. Donald Siegel)

Effective little WWII picture about a small squad of American soldiers left behind to fend off a much bigger squad of German soldiers. Steve McQueen is the troubled loner who leads these men and holds the picture together. Not a small feat considering he has to work around Davy Crockett (Fess Parker), crooner Bobby Darin and comedian Bob Newhart. That this movie works at all is a credit to director Siegel as well as the other supporting cast.
