L’Enfant sauvage / The Wild Child

(1970, François Truffaut)
Part Miracle Worker, part Jungle Book, this story of a man-cub found amongst the wilderness and harshly re-educated to be a human is oddly compassionate. It’s also not unlike Truffaut’s prior The 400 Blows in that it shares a cynical view of child-rearing. Truffaut plays the part of the doctor in charge of civilizing the wild boy.
